How to… whip cream?!

November 19, 2009 | Categories: How-To, Recipes

Sometimes I forget that some of my readers are at the very beginning stages of learning how to cook. Some of them don’t know the most simple things, like whipping your own cream. Some of the most simple things though, can be some of the most delicious and… and… life altering.

Now, join me, grasshoppers. Whipping cream, let me show you.

You’ll need some heavy cream. I used almost a whole pint.

I know, you feel guilty. It’s okay, double your workout tomorrow.

Start to whip the heavy cream. Now, you can use a hand mixer like I’m stupidly using here, but a stand mixer (or hand held with attachments) with a whipping attachment works much better, and faster. But since we’re dumb, we’re taking the hard road.

It should start to get bubbly and gorgeous right away.

When you start to see it thicken, add about 1/2 cup of sugar for every pint cream used.

Keep whipping!

Done! You could have stopped at the previous stage, but I like pretty “firm” whipped cream… And that sounds like a totally disgusting combination. “Firm” and whipped cream should never go together!

Have it with berries, cakes, puddings, ice cream, yadda yadda.
