Down time, Oh no!

January 16, 2010 | Categories: Uncategorized | Comment

As some of you may have noticed, MissP has been down for a few days! I had some issues with GoDaddy and renewing my domain name, but everything is settled now. :) I’ve been really bad with posting as much as I used to, and you have my sincerest apologies!

Cucumbers… who knew?

December 30, 2009 | Categories: Beauty, Informative | 4 Comments

I know what you’re thinking. “She hasn’t blogged in forever and when she does it’s about CUCUMBERS?” I feel your pain, but hear me out. Did you know there’s about a million other uses for them, besides eating them? How do I know this, you ask? I know lotsa stuff. Like how cucumbers help mirrors not fog up. Will I ever use this? No, probably not. Sort of like algebra, only more important.

001. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day. just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

002. Put down the caffeine and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours. Much longer than any sugar or caffeine drink. I need to practice what I preach, since I’m the queen of Starbucks. Whoopsies.

003. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance. Ooooo.

004. Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of slugs and grubs all season. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy. I’ve actually never done this because I seem to kill everything I try to grow, but I bet it works.

005. I’ve heard cucumbers really help with cellulite. (I guess it would depend on who it’s on though, haha.) The phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Would probably work well on wrinkles too, same principle.

006. Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache/hangover free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!

007. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation. I don’t know about you, but when I’m wanting a snack, I don’t think GEE I WANT A BLAND CUCUMBER, YUMMY. But it would probably be a better choice.

008. Rub a freshly cut cucumber over your shoes for a ghetto-polish. It’s chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

009. For a special spa stress treatment, cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

010. When you’re out of breath mints, take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath. Apples also do this!

011. Looking for a ‘green’ way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won’t leave streaks and won’t harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

012. I don’t know how they do it, but the outside layer of a cucumber erases pen, crayon and marker from almost any surface. Even walls and paper. Magic :)

Pass this along to everybody you know who is looking for better and safer ways to solve life’s everyday problems.

Taking Care of your skin

November 18, 2009 | Categories: Beauty | 5 Comments

Okay so this post is probably going to gross a good number of you out, and make you go “Oh my… what the!” But let’s just go ahead and face it. Everyone… everyone, i tell you, has had problems with their skin, and would like to change it. Some people have oily skin, some people have dry skin, some people have acne, rosacea, blotchy skin, itchy skin, ect. Some people take what they think is excellent care of their skin, but they’re doing it all wrong. How do I know this, you ask? I’m no dermatologist, you say? Well you’re right! BUT I have had minor problems with my skin for years and during those years, i have tested out just about EVERY theory there is. So, sit down and get comfy.

Raise your hand if you have never gotten a pimple. …. …. … Yeah, I didn’t think so! Raise your hand if you have (as disgusting as it is) never squeezed a pimple in hopes of getting rid of it? ………………. YEAH! Let’s face facts. Everyone gets them, everyone attempts to get rid of them.

1.) First things first. Pop them, please. For the love of everything sparkly, get rid of them. I don’t care if you’ve heard that you aren’t supposed to squeeze them, it’s a big fat lie. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people say something along the lines of “Well I have this big disgusting attention-drawing boil on my face because they say you aren’t supposed to squeeze them. It gets the germs all over and creates more!” Okay well maybe not word for word, but something like that. It’s perfectly fine to squeeze as long as you clean the area before and after. This will stop germs from partying all over your skin and loving it so much they just wont leave.

2.) Don’t try to scrub yourself raw. Use something with exfoliating beads like neutrogena grapefruit acne wash and be nice to your skin. The beads will take care of any dead skin cells and leave the healthy ones where they belong. Scrubbing is too rough for the skin on your face.

3.) Moisturizing. Something that totally gets over-looked nowadays. Don’t just use any lotion. Don’t use the cheap scented stuff from bath and body works. Like your makeup and face wash, you need to find a moisturizer that matches your skin type. They have moisturizers for every skin type you could imagine. Once you figure out what yours is, just trial and error. Buy one and see how you like it, and if it’s not for you… give it to your sister, or mother, or grand mother, or mail lady. Some companies even offer money back guarantees for their products. When you find the one that makes your skin feel great, not too oily and not too dry, stick with it! You’ll know when you’ve found your match.

4.) Last but not least, comes a mistake that nearly every woman has made in her cosmetics-buying lifetime. Oil based makeup. They are the most vile products on the market today, in my opinion. They make your skin feel like you’ve got a built up layer of wax hangin’ out on it. Not only that, but the oil actually causes more breakouts for people that already have oily skin. Personally, I have medium to oily skin, so I have trouble finding products that suit my skin. But either way, opt for water based products only. You’ll thank me.

Here are the cleansing products I use.

Neutrogena grapefruit acne wash, Aveeno daily cleansing pads, and Aveeno daily moisturizer.

Real life got in the way.

November 10, 2009 | Categories: Life, Penny, Pictures | 5 Comments

Hello all! I’ve been so, very, stupidly busy lately. My apologies for no posts! My baby girl Penny, as some of you know, has been pregnant for the last 65 days or so. On Friday night she went into labor and had some serious complications. I wont go into detail, but unfortunately we lost two out of the three puppies. She had to have a cesarean performed, so she’s been spending the past few days in bed. Eating a lot, resting, and taking care of her baby girl.

Now I’m off to post the pictures for Roasted Rosemary New Potatoes and Green Beans. It’s going to be a separate post. For, you know, organization’s sake!
